Sport
Sport is Central to Student Life at MDI
Whatever you Play..Join in on the Fun
MDI offers a choice of many sports including Gaelic football, hurling, soccer and tag rugby for both males and females, and students also have the option of engaging in a wide range of other sports through the sports clubs and facilities in DCU.
Gaelic Football
Over the past few years the men’s Gaelic football team has been one of the most successful of the college teams. In 2011, the team contested the final of the Ulster Bank ‘Corn na Mac Léinn’ but lost out narrowly to IT Blanchardstown.
The team also participated in the Ulster Bank Higher Education Senior Football league and took part in the Centenary 7s tournament held in DCU.
This year the 1st year team have reached the Quater finals of the Championship.

Hurling
The men’s hurling team play together with our neighbours St. Patrick's College Drumcondra.
The St. Pat’s / Mater Dei team reached the quarter final of the Fitzgibbon cup last year.
Soccer
Our men’s soccer team play in the North Dublin league and cup each year.
In 2009, the team won the CUFL Second Dublin North League whilst also reaching the Quarter Finals of the CUFL All Ireland League in 2010.
Rugby
The Mater Dei Saints were founded in 2010 with the aim of introducing Rugby Union to the students. For the 2011/2012 season our various teams will be involved in several competitions including the University 7s and Male IRFU Tag Rugby league based in St. Marys College RFC.
We are hoping to attract enough players to eventually field a full XV. As per previous years there will be some friendly matches between staff, students and graduates.
New players are always very welcome.
Athlethics
Students have also set up a very active and passionate athletics club. Whether you race competitively or not, our Athlethics club caters to all levels.
