Additional Requirements - Music Tests
**MD401 is a Restricted Entry course. Apply through CAO by 1st February. Late applications cannot be accepted.
Outline of Music Tests (2011/2012)
Normally, there are two stages for assessment for MD401: Education, Religion and Music (Restricted).
First time applicants must successfully complete both stages.
Applicants who applied in a previous year for MD401 and were deemed successful in the Music test that year are not required to present again for the Aural / Theory or Performance tests.
Upon receipt of the letter inviting applicants to come for the test, applicants should tick the appropriate box on the test return form, complete the information requested and return the form to the Admissions office, Mater Dei Institute of Education, Clonliffe Road, Dublin 3.
Stage 1: Aural / Theory Test (Saturday, March 24th 2012 at 3.00pm)
Each applicant for MD401 will be invited to participate in an Aural / Performance Test to indicate his/her natural aptitude for music.
All those who attend for Stage 1 will be notified subsequently whether or not they have been successful or not.
If unsuccessful, applicants may not proceed to Stage 2 and will no longer be eligible for course MD401 in this application year.
Music Aural / Theory Sample
Stage 2: Performance (Saturday, April 14th 2012 Invite Only)
If successful in Stage 1, the applicant will be invited to return to the Institute for an instrumental audition.
On that occasion, he/she will be invited to present two contrasting pieces of his/her chosen instrument - or voice.
Grade 6 standard is normally required. However, this requirement may be waived where an individual demonstrates equivalent competence and/or experience, perhaps as a traditional musician. (Duration of Performance: ca. 10 minutes).
On this occasion, the requirements of the course will be discussed with the applicant.
All applicants who attend for Stage 2 will be notified whether they have been successful or not and whether they are still eligible applicants for MD401.
