Make Friends Through Clubs & Societies
There is no better way to make friends in college than through our clubs and societies! Clubs and societies are managed and run by students with the assistance of the College and the Students’ Union. ‘Clubs and Societies Day’ offers an excellent opportunity to get involved in many different social, cultural and sporting activities.
In MDI, clubs and societies are managed and run by students with the assistance of the College and the Students Union. 'Clubs and Societies Day' offers an excellent opportunity to get involved in many different social, cultural and sporting activities.
Particularly for first year students, joining a club or society provides an ideal opportunity to:
- Make new friends (which is always a help!)
- Meet people with similar interests
- Participate in new activities
- Take a well earned break from study!

Joining a Club or Society
Each September there is a 'Clubs and Societies Day' held in the canteen. Here students can meet representatives of the different clubs and societies and find out the different activities taking place for the year. Students also have the opportunity to join any of the clubs and societies on display. Once you have signed up you can go along to their meetings and get involved in their activities and events.
Don't worry if you miss out on the day! If you wish to join a particular club or society at a later date please contact the Students' Union for more information.
Setting up a Club or Society
In MDI students also have the option of setting up their own club or society. How does it work? Well all you have to do is contact the Students' Union with your ideas and they will provide you with all the help you need, it's that simple!
